There are many things we have to take care of during our everyday life. For that reason, our brain automated some of our actions. Is a way to safe our mental energy for more important or newer things. But on this automated state is very hard to question our actions. There are many small things we do every day that harm the environment, and we don’t even notice them. I am trying to avoid this irresponsible, and at the same time human behaviour and change small routines in my life.

When I started this blog, my main goal was to reduce the amount of plastic bags in my life. Currently, my focus has expanded into any type of single used plastic. You can read more about the consequences of this issue here. I have started avoiding plastic in my beauty routines. As you already know, I have started using olive oil to hydrate my hair, here you can see how; and I have replaced my plastic toothbrush for a bamboo one and my toothpaste with activated carbon powder, which comes in a glass jar. I was looking forward to start using this type of products and my sister got a bamboo toothbrush for me! Lately, this type of products is becoming more available and you can start finding them in many stores; such as organic supermarkets, herbal stores and of course, the internet. The bamboo alternative is a little bit more costly, but not if we compare it with the environmental cost of a classic plastic toothbrush.

Bamboo toothbrushes can take up to 6 months to decompose, while its plastic version can take hundreds of years to disappear. Every year 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown away just in the US. Is we placed them one after another, it will stretch around the earth 4 TIMES!!! Most toothbrushes end up in the ocean, harming the marine environment. Actually, 100,000 marine mammals and million of sea birds are killed every due to the plastic pollution in our oceans. Doing this small swap in my life was one of the best decision of 2018, because every little action matter. What is yours?
