Hi, all! How are you? Last week I did a clothes swapping party and I would like to share with you how it all went.
I try to make my swapping parties like real parties, where women can enjoy themselves, have some food, music and meet other interesting women. I think I got it right!
It’s always a struggle to find a suitable time for everyone, this time I opted for a Sunday afternoon as opposed to a school night. I have the feeling that there are many people that do not fully understand the concept or they have never worn preloved clothes and for them, it feels strange or uncomfortable, so there is still a long way to go… It’s such a pity that some people feel that way, all of the clothes I have reclaimed so far from these swaps have been great and I love them! This time I got a beautiful winter hat with feathers, that I am sure I will be using a lot; a pair of high heel sandals that I am looking forward to wearing on a special occasion and an amazing wrap dress that I have worn twice already and people have stopped to compliment me in the street. I’ll be sharing pictures with you soon, I promise! And I was not the only one that got amazing clothes, all the other girls left super happy with a bag full of pre-loved clothes!
Swapping parties are also a great way to help support our local community. All the clothes that remained were donated to a charity that supports refugees here in Atlanta. This time we donated 4 bags full of clothes in perfect conditions that will help women who arrived in this country with very little and are grateful for the opportunity to start a new life. So if someone invites you to a swapping party, please go and have fun and I encourage you all to take the lead and organise your own local swapping party. It’s a win-win for everyone, including the environment. So let’s all do our part and preserve the world, one swap at a time!
