LBD

May 9, 2017

I couldn’t agree more with Vivienne Westwood when she said that we should “buy less, choose well, make it last”. And today’s outfit couldn’t be a better example of it. A classic and timeless piece that every woman should have in her wardrobe, a Little Black Dress. The LBD was invented by Coco Chanel in the 1920’s and has left us iconic moments in most decades. Such as Audrey Hepburn rocking her “go to prison” outfit at Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Lady Di taking her revenge or the Sex & the City girls with a pre-taste of what the 2000’s was about.

A Little Black Dress is an investment piece which, I highly recommend if you are planning a capsule wardrobe or even if you are not. I am wearing a frill sleeves shift dress, the shift is a very flattering silhouette shape for every body type. It is feminine, brings the attention to the top part of your body and hides the lack of waist or the extra pounds in belly or bum/legs. In my case, the frill sleeves give a little taste of my Spanish origins on a daily basis and I love it!

The dress is about 5 – 6 years old, my sister (the original owner) and I have been trading it back and forward very often. It is perfect for going to work, a semi-formal dinner and travelling. It is quite versatile since you can wear it all year long, with or without tights.

As I already said, the LBD is very versatile and you can wear it for almost any occasion. But let me give you one last advice, please avoid using it at weddings!! It is a happy day, you are celebrating a beautiful moment and the clothes should be colourful and aligned with the occasion. You can wear black every other day of the year, so if you are going to a wedding please go colourful, you will feel great in colour and the pictures will look amazing!!
